Sunday, November 7, 2021,
Time- 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
As a part of the National Cancer Awareness Day, NSS CVS successfully organized an enriching webinar on Cancer Awareness on 7th November 2021, in an online medium.
The speaker for the day was Mrs. Neerja Malik, a TEDx speaker, with a BEd and BSW degree from Bombay. She has worked immensely in the field of social work and teaching and has experience of 23 years in counselling patients with cancer and instilling a feeling of facing it in them.
The speaker started by highlighting the importance of National Cancer Awareness Day in educating the masses about cancer early detection and prevention. She also stated that the young generation's age is the best phase of life to introspect, analyze, and act positively.
She talked about three basic but very impactful things that we can adapt and follow if we are diagnosed with Cancer.
1) Think of cancer as merely a word in the dictionary, i.e, don't overthink about it. With a strong belief and advancement in medical technology, things aren't as much complicated as they were before.
2) Even if you have been diagnosed with it, don't think it to be the end of your life. Just perceive that all the pain that you'll bear in the treatment is merely a 'bypass road' in your journey of life.
3) Laughter is the best medicine in this world which can instill a feeling of hope, strength and determination to face and overcome any challenge.
The speaker also shared that when she was also diagnosed with cancer, she adopted a very optimistic attitude. She also highlighted that use of the word 'fight' is inappropriate when we say that, ' I will fight this problem' as it instils a rush of blood, negativity and willingness to show your power. Rather 'Face' is a better alternative as it produces a feeling of positivity, hope and strength.
The speaker mentioned that even if you are completely broken or ill, believe that things are improving day by day and never let positivity turn into negativity. Also, she stressed the fact that whatever you speak, let it be 'mindful, meaningful and come from your sense of awareness'.
She also stressed the importance of a strong belief in God and a doctor as they both are the ones who can be a life savior for you. Also, she mentioned that the 'role of prayers' becomes vital in such a critical situation and one can fix a goal for himself/ herself for whom he/she wants to live his/her life which can be very impactful in speedy recovery. The speaker believed that the following three sayings can be very handy in achieving fruitful results and positivity-
1) 'God' is great
2) 'This too shall pass'
3) 'Laughter is the best medicine'
Last but not the least, she shares that apart from the cancer patient, the family members and friends of the patient, require effective counselling to be positive and create also create an atmosphere of positivity and laughter around the patient.
This was followed by the question-answer session. To recognize the valuable efforts and knowledge on this very vital topic, a virtual vote of thanks was presented to Mrs. Neerja Malik.
The team of NSS CVS, with its motto of Not Me But You, would continue to organize such insightful and life-changing webinars shortly.
