My dearest family and friends...

I would love to share with you the wonderful words that Rekha, one of the finest actresses of Indian Cinema and well known for her versatility, wrote to me after reading my book  'I Inspire'  before it was launched in Chennai in October of 2015...

Let us FACE Cancer, Not FIGHT It

My beloved family and friends...
I have always called myself a conqueror...
Not a fighter, nor a warrior, nor a survivor...
And there is a story behind this...
Way back in 1998, when I was first diagnosed with cancer, on Friday the 13th February, I went to my father and told him :
"Papa, I'm going to fight cancer."
My father, Cdr. Benoy Bhushan, was a highly respected officer from the Indian Navy of the Indian Armed Forces...
He was awarded with a Mention in Despatches in the 1971 war...
He turned to me and he said :
"Beta, why are you using the word  "Fight" ?
"Fight" is a negative word...
Why don't you use the word  "Face" instead ?
"Hum hon ge kamyaab !"
"We shall overcome !"
Since that day, his words have resonated with me completely and have been deeply imprinted on my psyche...
I have narrated this to thousands of my patients and his words have moved and given courage to many...
If you hear anyone say  "Face cancer, don't Fight it"  you know where these words have originated from...

Neerja Malik Sows the Seeds of Humanity beyond the Realms of Religion

Translation of Neerja Speaking in Tamil:

Neerja Malik speaks about her experience of counselling a muslim lady with cancer who was awaiting surgery in hospital. The hands of the woman were trembling like those of a trapped bird and she was extremely nervous and scared. Neerja held the hands of the woman and slowly started chanting, "La ilaha illallah muhammadur rasulullah," for 10 minutes. The hands of the womam stopped trembling and she had a calm and serene smile on her face. She opened her eyes and looked at Neerja and exclaimed, "You are a muslim." Neerja said, "Yes." She looks beyond religion. It doesn't matter to her whether she is being called a Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jew, or Parsi. She believes that first and foremost she is a human being. 

Neerja feels that she is connected to everyone in the world. So even if someone in New Zealand, Srilanka, or America suffers, her heart bleeds for all of them. She feels that we are all connected to God. Neerja feels that we need to love one another and look beyond complexions such as black, white, wheatish, or yellow. As long as you have a heart and soul, and we are human beings, we all belong to the same family.

It was an honour to be with you today and the bonus was meeting my friend of more than 30 years and taking off from whenever we last met, with the same warmth, love, affection and a heartfelt connection...

Yes, that was my dearest Kutti Vaal...

I was also happy to meet Seema Ahmed, Rumana, Satish Jupiter, Uma Muthuswamy, Lisha Chinnu and so many more wonderful people...

I was so proud of the inauguration of   "Anmol"  and the young entrepreneurs Anandita and Zainab, who, at such a young age, are thinking passionately of how to give back to society in many ways and encouraging like-minded youngsters who have given up their professions to follow their heart and their art, one of them being Aafshana...

This is just the begining...
